After years of rumors, Xiaomi today launched its first notebook, the Mi Notebook Air. The company will be offering the laptop in two different screen sizes: 13.3-inch and 12.5-inch.
As if the name was not a clear indicator, Xiaomi is taking on Apple’s MacBook Air with its first laptop. The company made direct comparisons to the latter in its launch event. The laptop sports a minimalistic design with no logo on its exterior. Made from anodized aluminium with Borax anodized process, the 13.3-inch variant of the Notebook Air weighs in at 1.28kg with a thin 14.8mm waistline — making it slimmer than the 13-inch MacBook Air by 13 percent. The 12.5-inch variant of the laptop weighs in at 1.07kg and is 12.9mm thin.
Both laptops feature a Full HD resolution display with thin bezels and a protective glass covering it.

The 13.3-inch variant of the Mi Notebook Air is the more powerful of the two. It is powered by Intel’s 6th generation dual-core processor clocked at up to 2.7GHz and Nvidia’s 940M GPU with DirectX12 support. It also sports 8GB of DDR4 RAM clocked at 2133MHz and a 256GB PCIe-based SSD. It also comes with an additional SSD expandable slot. Other specs of the laptop include a full-sized backlit keyboard, HDMI port, USB 3.0 x 2 ports, and a USB Type-C port.
The 12.5-inch variant of the Notebook Air is powered by an Intel Core m3 processor, and sports 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD with an expansion slot, and runs on Windows 10 like its bigger sibling. Taking a cue out of macOS Sierra, both laptops can automatically unlock themselves when they are in the vicinity of your Mi Band 2.
The bigger Notebook Air offers 9.5 hours of battery life, and it is capable of charging up to 50% in just 30 minutes. The smaller Air offers slightly longer battery life at 11.5 hours.
