Cooking is more important in Zelda: Breath of the Wild than ever before

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features Nintendo in a rare situation where it isn’t totally looking inwards. The game is loaded with homages to other franchises and genres, and the booming survival-genre is obviously playing a huge role on how players approach this vast, open Hyrule.

No longer is Link able to chop down bushes or break pots to find hearts. He must gather ingredients and cook if he hopes to regain life at any point in his quest. Cooking also grants power benefits, gives Link a boost above his normal health limits, and, in some circumstances, allows him to travel to new places. Eating cold objects allows Link to travel to places that were too hot for him to handle before.

The same goes vise versa.

Arrekz Gaming has the lowdown on all you need to know about cooking, and it also provides a fun look into the game for those of you, like me, who were not able to play the demo last week… Don’t worry, there is still help for us just over the horizon.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released for the Wii U and NX in 2017.
