[Update] Instead of launching the VR headset, the company has launched a teaser video for the upcoming device on Chinese video sharing website, YouKu. The video doesn’t seem to reveal much about the device except for the fact that that headset will be launched on August 4.
Xiaomi may be planning to launch a new VR headset today. The company has already created an official Weibo page for the upcoming device, but hasn’t revealed much about the device itself and has only mentioned the launch date. Judging by Xiaomi’s track record, expect the device to be quite affordable as compared to VR headsets from other manufacturers like Samsung’s Gear VR and the HTC Vive.
The launch of a VR headset comes just a few days after the company launched the Mi Notebook in China. The device runs Windows 10 and is available in 13.3-inch and 12.5-inch versions. Both have Full HD displays, backlit keyboards and are charged via a USB Type-C port and is available in gold and silver colour variants. The 13.3-inch version is priced at CNY 4,999 (approx. Rs. 50,300) and is powered by an Intel i5-6200U processor with a Nvidia GeForce 940MX GPU. The device features 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD storage and a free SATA slot for storage expansion. The 12.5-inch version is powered by an Intel Core M3 Processor with 4GB of RAM and sports a 128GB SSD.
